As a Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes podcast, we know our role in the greater scheme of things is admittedly small. We get together every week and chat about a little game on a mobile device we all play when the boss isn’t looking. It’s a good time and we love bringing some levity to people’s days as we all trudge through the global nightmare that the past few years has been. We don’t often approach controversy (the Star Wars fandom has enough of that!) and we try and keep it light.
But there are some things that can’t be ignored. The war in Ukraine is an atrocity and we can’t simply stand on the sidelines chatting about jawas while civilian lives and democracy itself is at stake. With that in mind, we’ve started the Galactic War Relief Fund, a promise to our fans that we will use the funds they so graciously provide us through their monthly Patreon donations to both keep the show running smoothly AND provide much-needed aid to the people of Ukraine.
From March 2022 on, 50% of the proceeds from our Patreon funding will go to helping those most in need in Ukraine, the children. We are providing this aid through contributions to UNICEF that are specifically targeted at helping provide safe water, health products, and psychosocial care to the children trapped in and/or trying to flee Ukraine. It is estimated that another 4 million people will flee Ukraine in the next few months, and now our patrons will be able to say they helped provide aid to them.
