10 Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes Squads You Need to Prioritize Right Now

Have you lost your way?

There are a lot of different characters in Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes. I mean, a LOT. Most players find themselves at a crossroads from time to time wondering, “What team should I be putting my resources into?” Should your Squad Arena team be a focus or do you need to work on the latest PvE team to help your guild get more stars in the newest Territory Battle?

The short answer: It depends. Everyone plays this game a little bit differently, so my priorities may not be yours to a tee, but there are some universal truths in this game that just make good sense. With that in mind, I’ve broken down the top teams (as of July 2019) to focus on and why each team is so important.

Important note: Some of these characters (like Darth Malak) have hefty requirements to unlock, so naturally you’ll have to fill those prerequisites first. This guide is intended for players who have most, if not all, of these characters either unlocked or close.

Priority 1 – Sith Empire

Uses: Squad Arena, Grand Arena, Territory War, Territory Battle

Sith Empire
Pure Evil

The Sith Empire team is absolutely dominant in Squad Arena and has been since the release of Darth Malak in April. I typically say that whatever team you use in Squad Arena should be your top priority, but let’s face it: your Squad Arena team needs to be Sith Empire at this point. As of this writing, 46% of first place teams are using this exact lineup – and 86% are using some variation of it. Check the current Meta Report here. An absolutely terrifying team in Grand Arena.

Priority 2 – Jedi

Uses: Squad Arena, Grand Arena, Territory War, Territory Battle, Raids

The Unkillables

While Darth Revan’s crew are causing more intense headaches these days, his old buddy Jedi Knight Revan has been shattering players’ dreams for far longer, and he’s not going anywhere. Possible substitutions include Ezra Bridger, Hermit Yoda, and even Obi-Wan Kenobi (Old Ben). Dominant in every single PvP mode as well as Raids, this is a team that you’re going to be getting a lot of miles out of. Another mandatory team for Grand Arena.

Priority 3 – CLS Rebels

Uses: Fleet Arena, Grand Arena, Territory War, Territory Battle, Raids

CLS
The OGs

Not only can these characters beat almost anything on Attack in Grand Arena, but Han and Chewie pilot the most dominant ship in the game (for now) and need to be in tip-top shape for Han’s Millennium Falcon to operate at a high level. Most of these characters can slot into other teams for various modes as well, so don’t snooze on this squad.

Priority 4 – RJT Resistance

Uses: Grand Arena, Territory War, Territory Battle, Raids

RJT
A Double Dose of Daisy

This is where teams start getting a little bit of slack on exactly who makes the roster. Holdo is a nice choice since she’s not needed anywhere else, but C-3PO or R2-D2 fit very comfortably here as well. Resistance Trooper can also drop some pretty big damage in place of Rey (Scavenger). The team is a hard counter to a lot of standard teams you’ll see in Grand Arena and several variations of this team do big work in all three raids.

Priority 5 – Separatist Droids

Uses: Grand Arena, Territory War, Territory Battle

Separatist Droids
Roger, Roger!

You may be noticing fewer uses on this team, but let’s not mince words: this team does work. They work very well on Attack or Defense in Grand Arena and Territory War AND they are needed for the newest PvE content, the Dark Side Territory Battle – Geonosis: Separatist Might (just call it “Bug Party”). I should mention they are an absolute blast to play!

Priority 6 – Geonosians

Uses: Grand Arena, Territory War, Territory Battle

Geonosians
Where’s Klik-Klak?

This one’s pretty important for all the same reasons as their Separatist Droid cohort. They’re relatively new to the PvE world, but look to be a very big pain to deal with on Defense. Another nice thing is the very light zeta investment – they only have two. Their ships are an excellent B-team in Territory War as well.

Priority 7 – Sith Triumvirate

Uses: Grand Arena, Territory War, Territory Battle

KOTOR Baddies

They may have been ousted long ago from their Squad Arena throne by the two Revans, but the Triumvirate are possibly the best trio in the game. When you need a win with an undersized squad, this should be exactly where you look. Run Traya, Sion, and Nihilus with any one of their pals (Trooper, Thrawn, or Palpatine), and you can almost guarantee a win against a five-man team.

Priority 8 – Nightsisters

Uses: Grand Arena, Territory War, Territory Battle, Raids

Nightsisters
The Witches of Dathomir

The Nightsisters have been a go-to team for a long time and they continue to find ways to remain relevant. Both Mother Talzin and Asajj Ventress both have great leadership abilities and Asajj is required in the Bug Party. No longer Squad Arena-viable, The Sisters have two different phases (3 & 4) they dominate on the Heroic Sith Raid and they are still a very tough team to face with anything other than a meta team or Imperial Troopers. A few other characters can slot into this team as well like Nightsister Acolyte, Nightsister Spirit, and even Enfys Nest. On Attack, however, they’re still very deadly.

Priority 9 – Galactic Republic

Uses: Fleet Arena (soon), Grand Arena, Territory War, Territory Battle

Galactic Republic
Aggressive Negotiators

This is another squad that has a few different versions. The first three slots are pretty much set in stone, but pulling General Kenobi and/or C-3PO for Grand Master Yoda, Barriss Offee, or even Clone Wars Chewbacca can yield some pretty impressive results. An important thing to remember is that General Kenobi’s The Negotiator will almost certainly make a big splash in Fleet Arena when players start unlocking it. Bye-bye, Falcons!

Priority 10 – Bounty Hunters

Uses: Fleet Arena, Grand Arena, Territory War, Territory Battle

Bounty Hunters
Scum & Villainy

There are few teams that are as famously tough as Bounty Hunters. Nearly everyone uses them for a frontline Defense, but they can be great on Attack as well. Not only are Hunters required in Hoth Territory Battle, but Bounty Hunter ships can be a pretty nasty fleet to have to chew through in Territory War with the infamous Hound’s Tooth getting support from ships like Xanadu Blood and IG-2000. It should be noted that almost any Bounty Hunter can be shoehorned into this team. Embo is quite effective and I rather prefer Zam Wessel in place of Jango, but that’s all up to you.

Honorable Mentions

So many other teams could have made it into this list.

  • Old Republic is fantastic, but alignment restrictions can prohibit their use in Territory Battles.
  • First Order is a staple on Defense and can help in raids, but there are a lot of counters for for them as of late and none of their ships are very good.
  • Ewoks have a pretty good foothold in PvP, but are lacking strength elsewhere and may be somewhat easy to counter.
